Hedera Guardian Integrates Open-Source National Carbon Registry Initiated by UNDP

We're proud to announce a major step forward in expanding Digital Public Goods (DPG) on Hedera. Building on the momentum of the Hedera Guardian, we are partnering with Xeptagon to integrate the DPG National Carbon Registry with the Hedera Guardian. The DPG National Carbon Registry is an open source project initiated by UNDP.

This integration makes it easier for countries to take advantage of the largest digitalized and open source methodology library in the world to enable auditable issuances for countries, allowing them to prove real, measurable impact.

Why National Registry Technology Matters

National registries serve as foundational platforms for data transparency and accountability. They play a pivotal role in ensuring that environmental, economic, and social data are collected, maintained, and made accessible to all stakeholders. By enhancing these registries through cutting-edge blockchain technology, we’re not only reinforcing data integrity but also facilitating better decision-making processes, automation of compliance reporting, and digitalization of the carbon markets at both national and international levels.

What is the DPG Carbon Registry?

The DPG National Carbon Registry is an open-source tool designed to record, verify, and report carbon credit data, provided by UNDP. It enables stakeholders to track mitigation activities with unparalleled transparency and accountability. By bringing this tool into the Hedera ecosystem, we’re not only strengthening the reliability of carbon project MRV data management but also providing a robust platform that can scale with the needs of governments and organizations worldwide. The NCR will also inherit the capabilities enabled by the Hedera Guardian ecosystem including project data comparison, granular data attribution, and top down labels for improved quality indicators for projects.

Looking Ahead

The integration of the DPG National Carbon Registry and the enhancement of national registry technology represent significant strides in our mission to create sustainable, transparent, and accessible technology solutions. As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering an ecosystem that supports open collaboration, drives impactful change, and sets new standards in environmental accountability. We are excited about the opportunities this initiative will unlock and the positive impact it will have on global sustainability efforts. Together with our partners and community members, Hedera is leading the charge in redefining what’s possible in the realm of Digital Public Goods.
